Leisure activities can increase a child’s opportunities to make friends and find a social niche.
At Dewa we recognize the fact that many kids with special needs have social communication challenges. And it’s hard to make friends while you’re in class, on the bus, or navigating the cafeteria. After-school activities are an opportunity to connect with other kids in a completely different way.
These activities are realistically chosen based on a child’s abilities, keeping the child’s sensory and physical limitations in mind as well as addressing a child’s interests.
In the course of our experience we found that Girls with special needs from Pakistan specially enjoy learning tailoring and embroidery. And later they are able to utilize this skill as a means of earning as well. Fine arts (various painting forms) and calligraphy is also a very popular choice of our students.
